For decades, Denmark has captivated the world of international cinema with its arresting and understated films that are known for portraying realistic storylines and naturalistic filming techniques.
This October, Filipinos can now watch some of the biggest wonders of Danish cinema with the Danish Film Festival happening at the Shangri-La Plaza from October 9 to 13. With the partnership between the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Embassy of Denmark, the film fest takes part in Shang's withstanding tradition of bringing its guests the best in culture and the arts, especially in films.

Nuuk
Directed by: Veronica Velasco
A Filipino film shot in Greenland, this psychological thriller reunites stars Aga Muhlach and Alice Dixson since their last film in 1991. It follows the story of Elaisa, a Filipino migrant worker who mourns the recent death of her husband. She finds companionship with a fellow Filipino Mark Alvarez, but unexpected events will unravel the truth behind Mark's introduction to Elaisa.
Ordet
Directed by: Carl Theodor Dreyer
This award-winning 1955 Danish film tells the story of the three sons of a farmer who all have different belief systems. While the eldest and the youngest have contrasting beliefs, the middle child believes that he is the living manifestation of Jesus Christ. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1965.
Across the Waters
Directed by: Nicolo Donato
Set in 1943, Across the Waters centers around a family of Danish Jews who fled their home in order to seek refuge and escape the grasp of Nazis.
I Am William
Directed by: Jonas Elmer
A 2017 Dramedy, I am William follow a child who becomes mixed-up in his uncle's debt from gambling. When the gangsters come for them to collect what it is due, William must save them both, while dealing with his own school bullies and his crush Viola.
Darling

Darling is a ballerina who suffered a lethal injury, preventing her from dancing again. She then must train her replacement, Polly, but when the girl ascends to stardom, Darling's sanity starts to fall apart.
The Day Will Come

A Fortunate Man

This 2018 drama film tackles the issue of immigration in Denmark, following the story of an Iranian man who, in order to avoid deportation, picks up different women in the hopes of marrying one.
Team Hurricane

Combining the punk chick aesthetics with documentary footage style on filming, Team Hurricane is about eight teenage rebels trying to figure out the confusing phase of their adolescence.
Circleen, Coco and the Wild Rhinoceros
