Comfort food is as varied and diverse as food is but it is always something that involves great pleasure. To some it’s as simple as mom’s adobo or tita Inday’s callos, and maybe anything, that reminds one of home. To me, it’s French fries and a chunk of rich dark chocolate (at room temperature please!). You see it’s not typically hard-to-find or expensive; it’s just something that makes you smile.

It was a fitting homecoming for someone who just traveled for 29-hours from halfway across this planet. Umu, Dusit Thani Hotel’s Japanese restaurant, was a beautiful backdrop for an intimate family gathering.

April 10 was V-Day for many musicians, especially for those sick of ratty recording studios, filled with old and broken instruments, piles of dust, and cliché reminders of the rock and roll lifestyle.

Coffee or tea? More often than not, it’s the former. The ubiquitous coffee shops in the cosmopolitan have become such a hit that capping the night off with a caramel macchiato or a raspberry frappuccino has evolved into a favorite ritual of sorts.

I was never really a big coffee drinker up until a year ago, when I badly wanted a Starbucks planner and got hooked on soy milk coffee (try it!). I love coffee shops per se, but I don’t really go for the coffee. My thinking would be I can make it at home, just the way I like it, without having to shell out a fortune. So I go for the company, the ambience, is some cases the free wi-fi, and mostly for the food.

Whenever MAC comes out with a new cosmetics collection, make up junkies wait with bated breath. When the first photos of the Fafi line were released, anticipation grew exponentially. The Fafi series was the result of a collaboration between MAC and the French graffiti artist Fafi, who is famous for her colorful artworks and sassy renditions of girls in urban settings. The look is decidedly young, full of bright and bold colors that perfectly complement the sizzling summer weather and graphic fashion trend.

True enough, the Filipino's taste has evolved and diversified throughout the years, ever since the world has gotten smaller with globalization and more people are venturing into entrepreneurship. Nowadays, every imaginable cuisine is available in malls, grocery stores, restaurant strips and food courts. There are the staples—Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Asian fusion—and recently, a developing interest for Mediterranean fare. Nevertheless, the world is big and there are still a myriad of cuisines to chomp on. For starters, a still-unexplored niche is Germany's cuisine. After all, the land that brought us Oktoberfest is not only all about BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz but it's also all about köstliche Speisen or, lest you nosebleed, delicious food!

I don’t drive a Volkswagen, but I have a crush on the Kombi. I get giddy when that rock star issue is a few happy skips away. And just like the same crazy high school stalking episodes -- chase scenes, paparazzi shots, and some quality time with your favorite search engine -- our hearts swell with pride with every achievement (potential or actual) associated to them. Yes, we love to have a share of the glory and what better way to engage in the proud moment than be right where it happens. Volkswagen car owners go national with an attempt for the international--a Guinness World Record for the Largest Parade of Volkswagen Vehicles.

Ever fancied yourself as Francois Hardy or any of Jane Birkin's girls? What about the luscious model Laetitia Casta or French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld? If you want to realize your Gallic daydream, fashion brand Promod could be the answer. Together with The Natural Source and Flojos, the French retailer showed a couple of girls how to dress in a style that is both tres chic and fit for the Manila's soaring temperature.

Once in a while, breaking routine and predictability in deciding what and where to eat can be worth the gamble. Especially, when you stumble upon a very good find. Curious to see what Greenbelt 5 had in store, and hoping to be as fortunate as discovering LJC’s Abe restaurant in Serendra, me and my random foodie group for the evening (a medley of women from different industries and varied origins) all agreed on a food trip at LJC’s newest baby --- Fely J's Kitchen.
